Seeking County Representatives for the Natural Disaster Mitigation Enterprise Board – Letters of Interest Due March 1st

Last session, HB21-1208 created a new enterprise that collects a fee charged to certain insurers and uses fee revenue to administer a natural hazard mitigation grant program available to local governments.

The Enterprise provides local governments with technical assistance on natural disaster mitigation, and is dedicated to:

  • Reducing the negative impacts from future disasters on lives, property, and the economy;
  • Improving the resilience of local communities given the increased frequency and intensity of severe weather events resulting from climate change;
  • Engaging in mitigation activities that directly reduce risks to lives and property, are cost-effective, technically feasible, science-based, ecologically sound, and environmentally sound as well as allowing strategic investment of limited resources and not harming underserved communities;
  • Reducing repetitive losses;
  • Utilizing federal funding available for natural disaster mitigation projects; and
  • Supporting communities with limited capacity to plan, prepare, and submit grant proposals.

There are four local government seats available on the Board (at least one county rep. and one municipal rep). If you’re interested in serving, please submit a letter of interest and résumé or curriculum vitae to Austin Geddis at austin.geddis@state.co.us on or before March 1, 2022.
