Requesting variance to open casinos. Currently operating under the State’s Safer at Home order, but have gone a step further to restrict non-resident travel on four roads that lead to recreational areas. Still requiring face masks for all county staff, and for visitors to the only County facility that is open—the Courthouse.

Requiring Masks and Other Safety Measures by Members of the Public When Accessing Gilpin County Buildings and Other Property In and For Gilpin County (May 12th)

Clarifying and Implementing Gilpin County Road Travel Restrictions (May 12th)

Adopting Safer-at-Home (May 12th)

Local Public Health Order – Mitigation & Suppression Plan (April 27th)

  • Asking entities to file their plan with the county, not just the state
  • Hotels are not open for non-essential travel until May 22, under county STL order

Safer-La-Plata Public Health Order requires restaurants to self-certify compliance with the guidelines and articulate their social distancing and sanitation practices. La Plata County is also pursuing a variance to allow additional industries/sectors to operate – outdoor recreation, outfitters, places of worship, gyms, meetings/events/gatherings, the Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad, and indoor retail.

Requesting variance for short-term rentals, and potentially restaurants and churches.

Limiting Activities of Non-Residential Homeowners and Seasonal Residents

Lodging

Prohibiting Short-Term Lodging (April 27th)

Closing of short-term lodging through May 31

Requiring Mitigation Plan of all Businesses (April 27th)

Requirement of business mitigation protocols, generally following the state industry guidelines but requiring face coverings for customers rather than recommending them
